What can you do with a degree in Games?

Skills from a game development degree can also be applied in fields like interactive media, simulation and even marketing, where gamification techniques are increasingly used. The creative and technical skills you can gain whilst studying a Games Development degree can also lead to roles in project management or entrepreneurship within the gaming industry. 

Specifically within the games industry roles include - 

  • Game Designers, they conceptualise and create game mechanics, storylines, characters, and levels.
  • Game Programmer writes the code that powers games, working on gameplay mechanics, graphics, and performance optimisation.
  • 3D Modeler/Animator's create and animate 3D models for characters, environments, and props
  • Game Artists design visual elements, including textures, environments, and UI/UX design.
  • Level Designer's focus on creating engaging and balanced levels or environments within games. Quality Assurance is also a route to consider, testing games for bugs and gameplay issues and providing feedback to improve user experience.
  • Game Producer manages game development projects, coordinating teams, timelines, and resources.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) developers specialise in creating immersive experiences for VR platforms.
